Gall Bladder Flush

The main function of the gallbladder is the storage of bile, which is formed continuously by the liver, but is delivered to the small intestine only after meals containing fat and protein. Bile ducts are present throughout the liver and serve as a main detoxification pathway as many of the by-products of liver detoxification are excreted through the intestines. Often the bile ducts will accumulate sludge over time. When your bile ducts are cluttered with this sludge, you will not pass detoxification by-products in a normal fashion.

Over time these toxins can build up in the gallbladder to the point of forming stones. The Gallbladder Flush helps the body to safely move the sludge and stones out through the intestines. This helps restore the normal functional capacity of the liver and gallbladder. With a gall bladder flush, you drink ½ cup of olive oil all at once. Your body perceives this as a major meal of fats and will quickly produce large amounts of bile to help digest (emulsify) the oil. Think of it as a fire hose! Large amounts of bile coming down through the bile system with more than normal force will move gallstones. Don’t be surprised if some appear in your stool the following day.

The Gallbladder Flush should always be done with the supervision of a nutrition-oriented healthcare practitioner. This is a potent treatment that will often flush out gallstones. If a stone is too big to pass through the bile ducts, it can block a duct and cause serious problems. For this reason proper preparation with Liver Flush, apple juice, and any other remedies recommend by your healthcare practitioner must be followed first. During the Gallbladder Flush it is important to follow a healthy diet and avoid: all fats and foods containing fat, refined sweeteners, refined flour products, dairy, preservatives and dyes, alcohol, recreational drugs, caffeine, and white rice.

Step 1    Monday through Saturday noon, drink as much organic, unfiltered apple juice or apple cider as your appetite will permit in addition to regular meals and any supplements that may have been prescribed.

Step 2    At noon on Saturday, eat a normal lunch.

Step 3    Three hours later, take two teaspoons of Epsom salts (disodium phosphate) or Celtic sea salt dissolved in about two ounces of hot water. Epsom salts can be purchased at any drug store and Celtic sea salt is available online and at your local health food store. The taste may be objectionable, therefore you may followed it with a little citrus juice.

Step 4    Two hours later, repeat step 3.

Step 5    You may have grapefruit or any other citrus fruits or juices for your evening meal.

Step 6    At bedtime, you may have one of the following:

a) ½ cup unrefined, organic olive oil followed by a small glass of grapefruit juice.
b) ½ cup unrefined, organic olive oil blended with ½ cup of lemon, or other citrus juice.
Unrefined, organic olive oil can be purchased from any health food store. Using a blender to whip the oil and citrus together can improve the taste and texture substantially

Step 7     Following step 6, you should go immediately to bed and lie on your right side with your right knee pulled up close to your chest for 30 minutes**

Step 8     The next morning, one hour before breakfast, take two teaspoons of Epsom salts or Celtic sea salt dissolved in two ounces of hot water, with a citrus juice chaser.

Some patients have occasionally reported slight to moderate nausea when taking the olive oil. This nausea should slowly disappear by the time you go to sleep. If the oil induces vomiting, you must start at Step 1 again the following morning. By the time you have completed your second week of apple juice and salt this problem should be alleviated. This occurs only in rare instances.

This flushing of the liver and gallbladder stimulates and purges these organs as no other method! It is the release of the toxins that may make you feel nauseous. You will probably also experience loose stools; this is caused by the salts, which are taken to dilate the bile ducts which eases the passage of sludge and stones. Patients who have chronically suffered from gallstones, biliousness, backaches, nausea, etc. may occasionally find small gallstone type objects in the stool the following day. These objects are light green and range in size from grape seeds to cherry pits. If there seem to be a large number of these objects in the stool, the Liver and Gallbladder Flushes should be repeated in two weeks.

** pay special attention to when your bowels move after step 7 as well as the nature of the wastes passed and discuss this with your practitioner.
